The Oracy Spark Structure
Oracy Spark is designed to make meaningful classroom talk simple, consistent and easy to sustain across the whole school.
Each week follows a familiar structure, helping children build confidence, vocabulary and speaking skills through regular, low-preparation discussion opportunities.
A Consistent Weekly Routine
Each day has its own focus:
Mindset Monday
Encouraging reflection, resilience and positive thinking.
Talk Tuesday
Building discussion skills, opinions and spoken interaction.
Wellbeing Wednesday
Supporting emotional literacy, kindness and self-awareness.
Think Thursday
Developing reasoning, curiosity and deeper thinking.
Feel-Good Friday
Ending the week with positivity, celebration and connection.
This consistent structure helps children become more confident speakers over time while making implementation easy for staff across the school.
Designed for Whole-School Consistency
Oracy Spark is built to work across different year groups while maintaining a shared approach to classroom talk.
The prompts are designed to:
-
encourage every child to participate
-
develop speaking and listening skills naturally
-
support vocabulary development
-
promote respectful discussion
-
create meaningful classroom conversations in just 2–5 minutes
Sentence starters are differentiated for Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 to support progression in spoken language and confidence.
Structured Across the Year
The content is carefully organised across the academic year using:
-
termly themes
-
seasonal events
-
wellbeing moments
-
transition periods
-
wider personal development themes
This helps schools build a richer culture of talk and reflection throughout the year rather than using isolated discussion activities.
A rolling long-term structure also ensures fresh content and progression over time.
Flexible for Different Classrooms
Schools use Oracy Spark in different ways, including:
-
morning starters
-
class discussions
-
circle time
-
transition activities
-
wellbeing check-ins
-

-
